Our approach is not one size fits all.
To help low income and at risk develop and improve specific skills which will enhance their self esteem and confidence. To provide a safe and fun atmosphere for kids to build their peer network and benefit from the cooperation and spirit of organized activities. To provide guidance and personal support through mentoring relationships.
Sports related activities are a highly effective tool with which to achieve these goals. By reinforcing concepts that are applicable to life, such as the necessity to follow rules, the benefits of being a team player and the value of healthy competition, SRP helps kids gain lasting life skills. In addition, SRP provides safe non-threatening environments in which teens can discuss sensitive topics with caring adults and peers.
One of the key components of our overall package of services are the "Sporting Events". SRP started these events with 10 complimentary tickets to a professional basketball game. Going to a professional game can now be considered a luxury for the average fan and SRP wanted kids to realize their dreams of becoming college athletes and scholars. These kids were referred by the families and friends as well as recruited in conjunction with local youth directors who recognized the need for structure in these young lives. Additionally, we now have over 1,500 kids who have attended a collegiate or professional sporting event.
